
RESOLUTION AGAINST THE PHYSICAL RESTRAINT OF CHILDREN

Delegate Assembly

WHEREAS, Children have died as a result of physical restraint; and
WHEREAS, Some individuals and organizations have advocated the use of physical restraint as a so-called intervention; and
WHEREAS, Numerous organizations have formally denounced the physical restraint of children for purposes other than safety; and
WHEREAS, States have passed or proposed legislation banning the restraint of children for purposes other than safely; and
WHEREAS, The physical restraint of children for purposes other than safety violates the NASW Code of Ethics, which prohibits physical contact that may be harmful; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the National Association of Social Workers is opposed to the physical restraint of children for purposes other than safety.
